Portraits for Soil Association - Organic September

Part of a visual content production job for the Soil Association’s Organic September campaign (#OrganicSeptember), which aims to get more people buying organic food. We produced three films in various versions for different channels including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, photography for recipes and animated titles.

Tom Hunt

First up, was Tom Hunt, chef, food-writer and restaurateur. We met Tom in his lovely glass-fronted restaurant Poco, which is nestled in the heart of Broadway Market. Tom believes in knowing where your food comes from and in ‘root-to-fruit’ eating. After buying some local produce from independent shops nearby, including the much-loved E5 Bakehouse, Tom cooked up his Moroccan-inspired breakfast scramble - which tasted as delicious as it sounds.

John Quilter

Our second film was a little closer to home: we headed to Yeo Valley Farm to meet some friendly cows and John Quilter, aka the Food Busker and our second Soil Association ambassador. Tom believes in animal welfare and spent the morning talking to the Yeo Valley farmer about the ways Yeo Valley makes sure its cows stay happy. After the farm tour we headed out to the ha-ha, where Tom cooked some coffee-braised beef short-ribs, using his own organic coffee brand Cru Kafe. After filming, we had a lovely lunch and explored the ornamental gardens attached to the farm cafe, which are definitely worth a visit if you haven’t been already.

Anna Jones

Our final film featured cook, food-stylist and writer Anna Jones, who believes in joyful, vegetable-centred food that tastes amazing and makes you feel amazing too. We met Anna in the beautiful organic pub The Duke of Cambridge in Islington, where she cooked some vegetarian flatbreads with tomato salad. After sampling the scrumptious flatbreads, we headed to the Dalston Eastern Curve Gardens, a hidden haven in the middle of Dalston, where we got shots of Anna exploring the herb garden and meeting the local bees and butterflies. Anna’s son appeared during filming very eager to see his mum and more than a little confused about what we were up to.
