Breaking the Cycle - Mindset Film #6

7N0A2002.jpg

The sixth instalment of Create Health’s Mindset films series was a real joy to shoot. It features the wonderful Jools Walker, an influencer, author, blogger, activist, public speaker and style icon from East London, who I’ve known for several years.

When Jools rediscovered her love of cycling, she knew it wouldn’t be easy to make a career of as a young black woman.

But she had no idea quite how challenging life would get; a diagnosis of depression, a mini-stroke, and becoming her mother’s full-time carer in the space of a few short years threatened to send her tumbling from the saddle.

But Jools’ passion, along with her desire to create space for women like her in cycling, helped keep those wheels turning. Now as a published author and public speaker, she’s spreading her powerful mindset far and wide.

Made as part of a series of branded content documentaries for health orientated advertising agency Create Health in Bristol. Other films in the series include Sink or Swim, Driven By More, Down But Not Out, Keep On Punching and Don’t Stop Me Now.

Shot on my Sony FS7 and a Canon 5D IV on a Ronin S for the cycling and train shots. All pre- and post-production by me.

With thanks to Ian James, Rapha, Look Mum No Hands, Mamma Velo, Impact Hub Birmingham, Ayesha McGowan and Jacqui Ma.
