Romy wins Best New Actor
Romy Clarkson has won Best New Actor at the Liverpool Indie Awards for her performance in Unfiltered. Honestly, this couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.
Romy is still studying at the Bristol School of Acting, and Unfiltered was her first proper short film project. She threw herself into a role that asks a huge amount, something raw and exposed and deeply personal, and she didn't hold back for a second. Seeing that recognised last night was a lovely moment.
The film follows a young woman recording letters to her own body, working through the weight of beauty standards, comparison, and the pressure to measure up. It lives or dies on its central performance, and Romy made sure it lived.
